About

I’m Charlie, I’m a nineteen year old aspiring writer. I’m currently in the process of rewriting my novel, a YA fantasy adventure set in my home town of Macclesfield. In recent years, I’ve been intrigued in the idea of life after death, and the thoughts that some people are able to communicate with spirits, I didn’t realise until recently, that these ideas are prominent in my novels.

Juniper Brown first came to life on the 14th July 2007, three days before my fifteenth birthday. So, it’s been four years of writing now, but it wasn’t until 2008 that the story became what it is today. I spent eighteen months writing the first draft, and took a year out of writing to get my head together. I’m extremely happy that I returned to rewriting the novel, because it is a story I love.

On that day in 2007 I woke up and looked at the clock. I always have a dictionary close-by and it just so happened that I was beside my bed. Being too lazy to leave the sanctuary of my duvet, I opened the dictionary and let it fall open. The first word I saw was ‘juniper’ and this sparked off an idea in my head. I went downstairs with my notebook and came up with a plan. I had the title: Shamanka Wytch in my head, and wrote a 20,000 word piece about Juniper Brown, a young girl at magic school, exalted as having to stop her ancestor from conquering the magical world.

Needless to say this has changed considerably since then. Earlier novels influenced what Juniper’s story became, and as I have grown as a writer, so has she. I have written lyrics for her novels, and planned a trilogy, involving her and those around her. Whether anything will come from these books, I don’t know, I’d like it to, but at the moment, I’m not writing with the thought of being published. I’m writing to prove to myself that I can manage to create a yarn.

I’m a second year student at MMU Cheshire, and once came runner-up in a young writer’s competition held by Writer’s Forum; although when I look back on the short story, I deeply regret it, it was a terrible tale, only written because I wanted someone to see my work.

There you go, an expanded bio of me and Juniper Brown.
